How it works

Renting from Cold Steel Rentals is six steps and no phone call. Every number below is read from the yard’s own rate book, not written for a sales page.

1. 1

   Step 1. Book online

   Pick the machine and your dates. The total — rental, delivery, waiver, fees and tax — is shown before you are asked to commit. Booking needs an account; browsing does not.

2. 2

   Step 2. We verify your insurance and licence

   A certificate of insurance naming the yard is required on every rental. Powered machines also need an operator with the right licence and certification — Alberta OHS requires it, and it is a clause of the agreement you sign. Your dates are genuinely held while the yard checks the paperwork; the machine is released once it clears.

   Step 3. We deliver, or you pick up

   Delivery is priced from the distance to your jobsite: $175.00 each way, first 15 km included, $2.75 per km beyond that, each way, within 80 km of Edmonton Yard. One trip drops the machine off and one collects it. Some machines carry their own delivery price, shown on the machine’s page. Pickup from the yard is free.

   Step 4. Engine hours are metered, not estimated

   Each rental day includes 8engine-hours8 engine hours, recorded by the telematics unit in the machine rather than guessed from the calendar. Hours past the allowance are billed at the day rate divided by the included hours, times 1.51.5 times.

5. 5

   Step 5. Return it full of fuel

   Bring it back fuelled and swept. If it comes back short, the refill and cleaning charges below apply at cost — there is no penalty rate.

6. 6

   Step 6. The deposit is cleared

   The security deposit is an authorisation, not a payment. The day before your rental starts we place a hold on the card you booked with: the money stays yours, but your bank reserves it until the machine is back. The hold is released when the machine is checked in, and most banks show it cleared within a few days. If anything is damaged or comes back short, we tell you what and why before a cent of it is taken. The calendar also holds 1–2 h1–2 h of turnaround between rentals for cleaning and inspection, which is why a machine returned today may not be bookable until tomorrow.
